January 2020 Update

Published: 13th January 2020

Happy New Year to all of our Young Carers and their families!

We hope you have had a lovely Christmas break and Santa was good to you all! We are very excited for this as we have a lot of exciting events planned for the year of 2020.

Young Carer Awareness Day: Thursday 30th January is National Young Carers Awareness Day. The day aims to raises awareness of the challenges faced by Young Carers and campaigns for greater support for them. To celebrate Young Carers Day we will be hosting 2 events; a Young Carers Celebration Party on Wednesday 29th January 2020 (Consent form attached) and an Awareness Training event on Thursday 30th January 2020).

Change of After School Group: There will be no Young Carer Tuesday after school group on Tuesday 28th January 2020. Young Carers and their families are invited to attend our Young Carer Celebration Party on Wednesday 29th January 2020.

Young Carers Awareness Training/Coffee Morning: We are hosting a Young Carers Awareness Training Event/Coffee Morning for parents/guardians and professionals to spread the word about Young Carers and the support the TEN and Humankind Young Carers offer. This will be held on Thursday 30th January from 10-11am at Living Waters Church, Laygate, South Shields, NE33 5PB (On the big roundabout on the other side to LIDL). Refreshments will be available, so why not come along and treat yourself to a free cuppa and sweet treat!

Fundraising: We want to keep the service running as it is, for as long as possible, but in order to do so we need to generate the funding to keep us afloat! We have many ideas to do so including: fundraising events, charges for some activities/ family days, tuck shop, organised and ran by the Young Carers themselves! If you have any ideas or suggestions on how we can boost our funds please let us know!

We currently have running a Lucky Draw for our Young Carers to win pantomime tickets to The Westovians Production of Robinsons Crusoe The Pirates (Information attached).

Tuck Shop: To generate funds for the service, we have decided to start up our very own Young Carers Tuck Shop at our after school groups. The tuck shop will be ran by our Young Carers where they will learn food hygiene, money management and maths skills, while offering sweets and treats to their friends. Each Young Carer will still be offered a free snack and a drink but there will also be additional treats on offer from our tuck shop at a small cost.

Thank you so much for all of your continued support, we look forward to another exciting year at TEN Young Carers Service.

Best Wishes for 2020 from all of the team!
